Aurora White Bud: A Rare Treasure from Shan Ancient Camellia Sinensis Tea Trees

In the mist-shrouded highlands of northern Vietnam, where ancient forests stretch towards the heavens, lies the home of Aurora White Bud tea. This exquisite white tea is crafted from the buds of Shan Ancient Camellia Sinensis tea trees, some of which have stood for over a century, rooted deeply in the pristine, mineral-rich soil of these remote mountains. These majestic trees grow wild at altitudes above 1,200 metres, thriving in an untouched ecosystem where the cool, crisp air nurtures their unique character.

The journey of Aurora White Bud begins each early spring, when the cold season gives way to the gentle warmth of a new year. The thick, plump buds—protected by layers of fine, snow-like fuzz—begin to emerge from the ancient branches and leaf axils. Local farmers, whose knowledge of these ancient trees has been passed down for generations, carefully scale the towering heights to handpick only the finest buds. This meticulous, once-a-year harvest ensures the purity and exceptional quality of the tea, preserving its delicate essence and connection to the land.

Flavour and Aroma

Aurora White Bud offers a cup that is as visually stunning as it is soothing to the senses. The tea’s liquor is a crystal-clear golden-yellow, with faint undertones of cream and green, reflecting its natural freshness. Its aroma is enchanting, reminiscent of wildflowers blooming in a spring meadow, interwoven with subtle notes of honey and mountain herbs.

On the palate, this tea is naturally sweet, smooth, and utterly free of bitterness or astringency. Each sip delivers a gentle, refined flavour, evoking the serenity and purity of the highlands. It’s a tea that speaks of the mountains, the ancient trees, and the generations of care that have gone into every leaf and bud.

Aged White Tea: A Rising Trend
Since around 2012, aged white tea has gained popularity for its unique flavour profile. As it ages, the tea develops a smoother, more complex taste, making it highly sought after—and increasingly expensive—among tea enthusiasts.

White tea storage

White tea isn't fired, so its enzymes stay active. In a humid environment, the tea can age and develop richer flavors over time. For those wanting to preserve its original taste, store it in a cool, dry place in an airtight container.
